GCC to set up Railway Authority by 2013-end

Dr Ramiz Al Assar, the resident adviser at the World Bank for GCC Secretariat General (GCC-SG), has said the six-member bloc is planning to form the GCC Railway Authority by the end of September and another meeting of ministers of finance on October 4 in Bahrain, Times of Oman has reported. "We hope that we will succeed to advance (the formation of) the GCC Railway Authority," said Al Assar. "Now the project is well under implementation stage and facing a lot of challenges and therefore, it requires this fundamental body," he added. The 2,200 km-long GCC railway line will start from the city of Kuwait in the north, connect all Gulf cities and end in Muscat.
