The Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign in collaboration with Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organised a tour in Sharjah for the international experts, doctors and researchers who participated in the 3rd Global Breastfeeding Summit, which was organised by Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign in collaboration with Excellence in Paediatrics Institute and was recently concluded at Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The tour covered Heart of Sharjah, Sharjah Museum for Islamic Civilization, Al Montazah, Al Qasba and Majaz Waterfront and aimed at familiarsing the international delegates with the initiatives taken by Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign as part of its efforts to turn Sharjah into totally baby-friendly by 2015.
The visitors viewed the special rooms designated for nursing mothers and babies in public places in Sharjah. They praised the equipment provided in these facilities which are in compliance with international best practices, especially comfortable nursing chairs, fridges, educational posters and, also, female helpers. They assured that such facilities would help mothers to better take care of their babies outdoors and give them and their children convenience and psychological comfort.
Delegates admired the mobile breastfeeding vehicle designated to nursing women at Al Qasba, and recommended that such an initiative be applied on the international level. They also commended the mothers’ Smartphone application launched by the campaign, which includes tips and instructions on appropriate breastfeeding methods and the right nutrition for a child. The application encourages mothers to post their questions to experts, to achieve the campaign’s goal of providing healthy lifestyle to mothers and children.
