Jordan government lowers tax on small engine hybrids

The Jordanian cabinet has reduced the tax on small-engine hybrid cars to 25% from 55% and to place a five-year age limit on motors imported to the local market, Jordan Times has reported. Under the recent decisions, the official said regular and hybrid cars more than five years old will not be allowed to enter the local market in a bid to renew the fleet of cars on the kingdom's streets, a government official said. According to figures from the Automobile and Spare Parts Agents Association, the number of cars in Jordan registered by the end of 2010 was around 1.1 million, 68% of which were manufactured at least 12 years earlier.
