Land Rover to introduce diesel hybrid SUVs

Land Rover plans to introduce diesel-hybrid versions of its new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models, in response to regulatory pressure to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions, Automotive News Europe has reported. The company decided to develop diesel-hybrids rather than gasoline-electric hybrids because diesels have better fuel economy, a Land Rover spokesman said. "Our aim was to build the most efficient hybrid we could," he said. The carmaker said it will start taking orders for the hybrids after their unveiling at the Frankfurt auto show in September, where prices will also be announced. Deliveries will start in early next year.
