Significant improvement in ICT infrastructure recorded since late 2011

Lebanon was able to record above-average improvements in its ICT Development Index (IDI) as per International Telecommunication Union’s 2015 Measuring the Information Society Report released on Monday.

ITU’s report, which has been published annually since 2009, features key ICT data and benchmarking tools to measure IT sector, including the ICT Development Index (IDI), reports UAE- based Aliqtisadi.

According to the report, Lebanon succeeded in achieving a significant improvement in ICT infrastructure since late 2011, with the supply of new wires and cables, and their distribution through the public-private partnerships, in addition to providing wireless broadband and 3G technology for mobile phones in Lebanon.

As a result, subscriptions to broadband rose from 7.6 per cent during 2010 to 22.8 per cent, while broadband wireless subscription rate increased to 53.5 per cent in 2015, compared with 9.6 per cent in 2010.
