Lebanon’s MEA orders 10 new Airbus planes

Lebanese carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for the purchase of 10 A320neo and A321neo aircraft, The Daily Star has reported. MEA will announce its choice of engines at a later date, Airbus said MEA chairman Mohammad al-Hout declined to disclose the value of the deal, but sources close to him estimated the agreement at around $1bn at current prices, the report said. "Adding the A320neo to our fleet means we can achieve all of these goals while benefitting from a 15% savings in fuel and cost effectiveness," al-Hout said.
