Middle East demand helps boost Toyota exports

Toyota Motor Corp has reported a surge in exports by its joint venture with PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), driven by solid demand from the Middle East, the Jakarta Post has reported. Exports, which comprise the Innova and Fortuner models, almost doubled in the first half of this year at 93.32% to 29,651 cars in the first six months of 2012, despite the gloomy outlook of the global economy, said external affairs chief Irwan Priyantoko. Exports to Saudi Arabia surged by 79.7% to 13,776 units, representing 46.46% of the total exports in the first six months, followed by the UAE with 2,313 units and Oman with 965 units, according to TMMIN statistics.
