* Mohamed bin Rashid Space Centre signed an agreement with Dubai Municipality to design and build the new satellite

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), the UAE’s, the entity integrating the country with global space programs and promoting space technology has just unveiled it is working on a new project.
MBRSC signed an agreement with Dubai Municipality, to design and build the region’s first environmental nanometric satellite.

and Ruler of Dubai, has taken our mission to shape the future to the outer space,” His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, and President of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), was quoted as saying on the UAE official press agency, WAM.
The new satellite, DM SAT1, was a project of the Dubai Future Accelerators program, as it is designed to collect and analyse environmental data using space technology. Data collection by the satellite will be used to create solutions to the increasing pollution in cities as well as to address climate change.
This is one of the latest activities of Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre. Earlier this year, MBRSC announced the completion of final design of KhalifaSat Engineering Model in addition to the software and systems within the satellite.
But the centre’s biggest project is the Emirates Mars Mission, through which the UAE plans to send an unnamed probe to the red planet by 2021, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the country.
In July 2020, when the orbits Earth and Mars align, the UAE gets a very brief window for success, made all the more special because this alignment happens only once every two years.
Hope, the spacecraft that will be launched in 2020, will travel more than sixty million kilometres to reach Mars, a journey of approximately two hundred days.
This project makes the UAE one of nine other countries that aim to explore Mars / in the foreseeable future.
