Complex Made Simple

Has this student just invented the most ESSENTIAL gadget ever?

We’ve all been there. And we’re all likely to return again. Smartphone in hand one minute. Dropping to the floor the next. Screen smashed. Cover broken.  All sense of order lost . . .

until you get your hands on your replacement phone and order is restored once more.

However, German engineering student Philip Frenzel may just have invented a gadget that will make dropping your phone entirely harmless – and even a lot of fun.

Called the ‘ADcase’, it works like an agile cat, deploying retractable claws to ensure a much softer impact upon landing. Frenzel’s design not only secured him a 2018 award from the German Society for Mechatronics, it also secured nine extra lives for your smartphone – because, thanks to him, your phone will land on its feet every time.

Fitted with special sensors capable of detecting freefall motion, which trigger the deployment of four retractable prongs bound by metal springs, the ADcase is certain to be the must-have gadget for 2018.

Frenzel plans to bring his gadget to Kickstarter, a crowdfunding website, along with fellow university student Peter Mayer, with hopes of transforming his idea into a business.
