Muriya, Oman’s leading tourism development company is set to welcome thousands of Italian tourists to its 400-room Salalah Rotana Resort. With 200 seat capacity and starting December 23rd, the new weekly charter flight from Milan to Salalah will further increase tourists’ arrivals to the Governorate of Dhofar. This achievement is the result of Muriya’s partnership with AlpitourWorld, one of the leading tour operators in Italy.
Muriya’s direct engagement with the German and Italian markets has positively contributed to the expansion and diversification of the tourism industry in the Governorate of Dhofar and this recent arrangement with AlpitourWorld further expands tourists’ arrivals to Salalah. Over the past few years the company has added some 500 hotel rooms in its Salalah Beach destination comprising Salalah Rotana Resort and the Juweira Boutique Hotel. This significant addition of hotel room capacity has already helped attract three weekly direct flights from Germany, which started operating during the last quarter of 2013. According to a report released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of visitors to the Governorate of Dhofar during 2014 has witnessed a year-on-year growth of 24.1 %.
Samih Sawaris, Chairman of Muriya said, “We are very pleased with the strong Government support to the growth of the tourism sector. The Government has made very wise investments in the necessary infrastructure such as the on-going expansion of the Salalah International Airport. To complement these government initiatives, we have been working on increasing the number of flights arriving to Salalah from major tourist markets. We are also working on expanding our existing hotel room capacity in the Salalah Beach destination with a new 220-room hotel scheduled to be operational by first quarter of 2016 bringing the total Salalah Beach room capacity to over 700 hotel rooms.”
Saeed Salim Rafeet, Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Tourism in Dhofar said, “The Ministry of Tourism is marketing Salalah as a year-round destination and have been working closely with the Government and private sector organizations such as Muriya, as well as some tour operators to help us achieve our goals to showcase what the Governorate of Dhofar has to offer visitors of all ages and nationalities. The agreement signed between Muriya and the Italian tour operator to offer regular charter flights, is yet another key contributor to our strategy to further build on the Sultanate’s tourism offerings and attract more visitors during the winter season due to the many attractions available including picturesque beaches, deserts and historical monuments among others.”
Claudio Melli, General Manager of Salalah Rotana Resort said, “The Rotana Resort is the Sultanate’s largest hotel with luxurious world class facilities. We recently expanded the resort offering to cater to the anticipated surge in our occupancy and provide a full-range of entertainment options to our guests. These enhancements are tailored to suit the needs of the Italian market, including Food and Beverage options, as well as various leisure facilities.”
Enrico Comotti, Resident Manager at AlpitourWorld said, “Italians love exploring ancient culture, heritage sites and enjoy sunshine as a part of their holiday and the Dhofar region has these elements in abundance. In addition to the Salalah Rotana’s world class amenities, we will operate a Bravo Club called Villagio Bravo to further facilitate the Italian charter. We have worked closely with Muriya on its expansion of the facilities at Salalah Rotana Resort to suit the Italian tourists and we look forward to building on this strategic partnership.”
