New KAIA airport to be ready by 2014-end

President of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Prince Fahd bin Abdullah as announced the new King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is to be ready by the end of this year, Arab News has reported. Spanning an area of 670,000 sq m, the airport will have two new terminals for domestic and international passengers. The new SR27bn expansion will increase the airport’s annual capacity to 30 million passengers in the first phase and 80 million in the final phase. “About 60% of the project has been completed and the remaining work will be carried out at a much faster pace to finish on time,” Prince Fahd said.
