Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan continues to show its steadfast commitment to a greener and environmentally sustainable future by achieving bronze-level status in Accor Hotels Group’s PLANET 21 programme.
Accor Group, which owns the Novotel brand, launched the international initiative in 2012 as a way of promoting best practice throughout its entire hospitality group spanning 92 countries.
Each hotel property is judged and then rated upon a list of measureable criteria such as minimising water and energy usage, expanding waste recycling facilities and promoting the use of renewable energy and eco-design. The initiative also promotes employee growth and skills, and encourages the use of locally sourced products.
“We are delighted to have received the first level of recognition within Accor Hotels Group’s PLANET 21 programme,” says Dominique Mercier, General Manager of Novotel Abu Dhabi.
“At Novotel Abu Dhabi we pride ourselves on taking an active approach each and every day in tackling a broad spectrum of environmental and social developmental challenges, whether it’s using energy-saving light bulbs, removing endangered seafood from our restaurant menus, recycling food waste for compost or engaging supply chain partners in our sustainable development strategy.
“We look forward to building upon our bronze-level PLANET 21 award by setting our sights on achieving silver status and beyond in the coming years,” he adds.
