"Orient Insurance is at an advanced stage of digital transformation," says chief executive Omer Elamin, who has been ranked among the Top 10 CEOs in the Insurance category for the fifth edition of the TOP CEO Conference and Awards to be held in Bahrain on April 11.

Elamin, the President of the Orient Group at Orient Insurance and Al-Futtaim Private Company, has made it to the Top 10 from a group of 600+ companies listed on the GCC stock exchanges. The list, compiled by INSEAD Business School and Dubai-based Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance, was recently released by Mediaquest Corp after being audited by global accounting firm KPMG.

"Today we have the highest volume of online selling of individual medical policies. Most of our products are now available online with a full transaction B2C," Elamin said.

Leadership acumen

In addition to leading Orient Insurance to strong financial performance and commanding corporate governance in 2018, Elamin has made remarkable contributions to the insurance sector in the Middle East. With more than 27 years of experience in the industry, his stellar leadership and business know-how have also been recognized in the past at the Middle East Insurance Review in 2016.

Sharing his thoughts on the future of business leadership, Elamin comments that "the GCC, the UAE and especially Dubai, have always been a great attraction for talent and this will continue to be so".

Elamin's success is a testament to his insurance market acumen, knowledge, and his ability to bring about key reforms within the sector. He believes that the globalized economy possesses a lot of opportunities despite the protectionism which has come up, as of late.

"Due to technology, the world has become a small village and, therefore, open borders can provide unlimited opportunities," said Elamin, who has strongly been influenced by the success of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.

As a message to young Arabs aspiring to become successful business leaders, Elamin reiterates the message of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum: “In the race of excellence, there is no finish line”.
