The current versions of AI, while bewildering in their abilities to mimic humans, are not even close to what technologists and scientists have in mind in the near future.
And near is measured in decades not centuries
What is AI’s future and which types of humans will compete against it?
It certainly won’t be you and me. While maybe, but a much improved version of us.
AI is leading the tech talk
There are currently 3 types of Artificial Intelligence.
According to a Gartner Survey of over 3,000 CIOs, Artificial intelligence (AI) was by far the most mentioned technology and takes the spot as the top game-changer technology away from data and analytics, which is now occupying a second place.
AI is set to become the core of everything humans are going to be interacting with in the forthcoming years and beyond.
Robots with an embedded AI are able to mimic any task a human can perform, including debating, as IBM showed earlier this year at CES Las Vegas.
The three types of Artificial Intelligence
We can clearly categorize AI into three types:
Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)
Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), also known as Narrow AI or Weak AI, is a type of Artificial Intelligence focused on one single narrow task. It is AI today.
Think of chat bots, Google Assistant, Google Translate, Siri, Cortana, or Alexa. They are all machine intelligence that use Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
AGIs refer to a type of AI that is about as capable as a human.
Example: AlphaGo, though only able to play Go, but its intelligence could be applied in various other fields.
AGI is still an emerging field.
Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)
With ASI, an AI will need to surpass humans at absolutely everything including arts, decision making, and emotional relationships.
Super intelligence can surpass human intelligence, it can think about abstractions which are IMPOSSIBLE for humans to think. The human brain is made of neurons and is thereby constrained to some billion neurons.
Types of human to counter AI supremacy
To overcome the limitations on the number of neurons, humans will focus on neuroplasticity, the capacity for the neurons in our brain to make new connections and reconfigure its network in response to new stimuli, information, or experience.
The transhumanist wants to replace the eye entirely or hijack existing senses in our bodies to detect any number of things that our bodies aren’t built to sense.
It is someone who has taken this step and upgraded their body in a way that doesn’t just fix a deficient part to behave as commonly expected but replaces something that works perfectly fine in order to do something more than is biologically possible.
Including the way our brains work. AI will have transhumans as valid competition for supremacy.
Generation Alpha children are the chosen ones to meet AI, eye to eye.
