Qatar International Food Festival to officially kick-off on Thursday, 20th March

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and Qatar Airways announced today that they have completed the preparations for the upcoming fifth edition of the highly-anticipated Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF). The 4-day annual event will open on Thursday, 20th March, at the Museum of Islamic Art Park, a family friendly venue that overlooks Doha waterfront with ample space for a wide-range of activities that will allow guests to enjoy a unique, fun-filled experience rich with international flavors.

Focusing on Qatar’s cultural diversity, this year’s festival will showcase the five-star hospitality and food services available in the country. It will also shed light on the relations of friendship between Qatar and Brazil by highlighting traditional cuisine and entertainment from both countries, as part of the 2014 year-of-culture programme. A number of internationally renowned chefs will celebrate fine dining with the freshest ingredients and latest food trends, taking visitors on a delightful culinary journey across continents.

A dedicated family zone will allow families to sample eclectic cuisine in an entertaining and vibrant atmosphere amid live music and fun activities for children. Many creative programmes and zones will add to the joy of fine dining at the festival.

The fifth edition of the festival will feature 11 general zones, including four food zones, a live cooking zone, 55 food stalls and five kiosks of restaurants and exhibitors.

Commenting on the festival, Rashed Al Qurese, QTA Director of Marketing and Promotion, said: “QTA’s mission is to develop a mature and sustainable tourism sector in Qatar. For this purpose, QTA concludes strategic partnerships and collaborates with all stakeholders in Qatar, such as Qatar Airways, to attract visitors from the region and the world by enriching Qatar’s tourism agenda with annual festivals and promotional activities.”

“QIFF will bring together the world’s culinary cultures in a unique event that reflects Qatar’s diversity and rich culture. The festival will allow QTA to promote Qatar in the region and the world as a world-class hub with deep cultural roots.”

Salam Al Shawa, Qatar Airways Vice President Corporate Communications, said: “Qatar Airways is proudly partnering with QTA to provide QIFF visitors with the opportunity to experience Qatari hospitality and showcase Qatar’s multicultural diversity, to residents and visitors alike.”

Al Shawa added: “As the award-winning national carrier, Qatar Airways is proud to promote Qatar as a destination of choice through co-hosting world-class annual events like the food festival, and through promotional deals to fly more people to the country to attend the event.”

QIFF has proven its success in attracting visitors from Qatar and the region, with a record 72,000 visitors last year. The festival falls within QTA’s efforts to promote Qatar as a leading tourism destination for business facilitation, authentic experiences and family-focused recreations.

QIFF named Qatar Museum Authority (QMA), Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage, and Qatar Events Diary OnQ the strategic partners. Partners of this year’s festival include: Doha Film Institute (DFI), BBC Good Food, Al Rayyan TV, QF Radio, Jeem TV, Baraem TV, Qatar Brazil Year of Culture, Philips and Crown Plaza Hotel. Renaissance Hotel will cater the ‘dinner in the sky’ signature activity, and the BBQ Donut will be by the Diplomatic Club.

Entry to the event is free. The festival will open its doors on Thursday, the inaugural day from 5:00pm until 11:00pm, on Friday from 01:00pm to 11:00pm, on Saturday from 01:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and on Sunday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm.
