Qatar Telecom makes $1.9bn bid for Qataniya stake

Qtel has offered to buy the shares it doesn't already own in Kuwait's National Mobile Telecoms (Wataniya) for around $1.9bn, as the Doha-based firm steps up acquisitions amid competition at home, Bloomberg has reported. Qatar's biggest phone company owns a 52.5% stake in Wataniya Telecomm which encompasses Qtel's businesses in Kuwait, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives and Palestine.
