Qatari hotels warned over service charges

The Qatari business and trade ministry has instructed 80 hotels in the country to immediately stop adding service charges in their bills, the Peninsula has reported. Early last year, the consumer protection department of the ministry banned the practice and said that the hotels had no right to levy additional charges on top of the price mentioned in the menu. Legal action could follow against the hotels if they are found adding extra charges despite the warning, the ministry said.
