Research in Motion loses patent suit

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) was found liable for $147.2m by a federal jury in San Francisco in damages for infringing on patents held by Mformation Technologies, the Associated Press has reported. Mformation, of Edison, New Jersey, sued RIM in October 2008, alleging that Canadian company infringed on its 1999 invention for remotely managing wireless devices. The patent at issue was filed in 2001 and issued in 2005.
