Saudi Arabia to add 50,000 new hotel rooms by 2016

Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities has said the number of hotel rooms across the country saw a jump of 54% between 2004 and 2012, Arab News has reported. In 2012, the total number of hotel rooms reached more than 185,000 units, representing an increase of about 88,688 rooms, of which 8,105 are in the capital, Riyadh, alone. "There are many projects currently being implemented in major cities and the economic cities, and thus, it is expected that about 50,000 more hotel rooms will be added over the next three years," said vice president of Investment and Tourism Development at the authority, Salah Al-Bakhit.
