The number of people using public transport in Sharjah reached approximately 2.822 million passengers during the first half of 2015.
This includes all operating lines in the emirate, whether on internal or external roads, according to Sharjah Public Transport Corporation, reports UAE-based Aliqtisadi.
Sharjah Transport says that the corporation’s public transport network operated 141,568 transfers after importing a group of large buses. These were used mostly in the transportation of passengers between the cities and regions of the emirate and other UAE regions.
It adds that there are roughly 16,000 passengers using the public transport network daily, through nine lines that include 68 buses, which are operated by the corporation in order to accommodate the growing number of users, most of whom are middle-income workers.
The transport corporation explains that there is a plan to install umbrellas at stations to protect public transport users from the sun and rain; these umbrellas will be closed, air-conditioned and available in all stations.
