Three consortia to start building Riyadh transport project in Q1 2014

Saudi Arabia's Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) has said three foreign-led consortia will supervise the design and construction of the new $22.5bn (SR84.4bn) automated Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), Arab News has reported. Italy's Ansaldo STS is the leader of the Arriyadh New Mobility group (ANM), which will be responsible for one line with a total distance of 40.7km, while Bechtel leads the BACS consortium, which will design and build two lines with a total distance of 63.3km. Spanish firm FCC Construction heads up the consortium, known as FAST, which will deliver three lines that cover a total distance of 72.5km.The metro system will have 96 stations in total, including the main stations, four transfer stations and five park-and-ride stations. The construction of the project will begin in the first quarter of 2014.
