The tourism sector is expected to contribute AED130 billion to the national economy of the United Arab Emirates in 2015, up by five per cent compared with 2014.
The nation’s tourism authority expects the number of inbound tourists and visitors to soar by 20 per cent to 24 million, Al Mazaya Holding says in a report.
The report published by the Al Hayat newspaper indicates that the tourism sector is a major underpinning of the UAE economy, contributing 8.5 per cent to the gross domestic product.
At the end of 2014, the value of tourism investments amounted to AED105bn, the report notes, adding that the UAE leads the region in terms of tourism investments.
Non-stop promotional campaigns and affordable real estate units and services continue to lure all types of tourists to the country.
The report also says that budget hotels remain the “smart option” to help the tourism sector expand further, explaining that tourists and visitors search for affordable accommodation.
The report calls on authorities to offer budget services and accommodations if they want to attract larger numbers of tourists.
