UAE air traffic grows 10 per cent in six months

Dubai ranked first with maximum movements, accounting for approximately 44.2 per cent of total

Air traffic movements in the UAE grew at a rate of 10.33 per cent by the end of the first six months of this year, according to the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

A GCAA report indicates that total air traffic movements by the end of the first six months of 2015 were 437,578 compared with 396,587 during the same period in 2014, reports UAE-based Al Bayan.

The number of air traffic movements in June 2015 reached 71,999, up by 14.9 per cent, compared with 62,681 in June last year, says the report.

The daily average of air movements in this month amounted to 2,400 movements per day, compared with 2,089 movements per day during the month of June 2014.

Dubai ranked first during June with 31,831 air traffic movements, accounting for approximately 44.2 per cent of the total number of air traffic movements in the country. Over-flights came in at 12,479 air traffic movements, accounting for 17.3 per cent of the total number of air traffic movements.

Abu Dhabi ranked second with 12,975 air traffic movements, accounting for about 18.2 per cent of the total number of air traffic movements. Sharjah International Airport came next with 5,623 movements.
