UAE telecom sharing deal not to include TV

The chief executive of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (Du) has said that a long-awaited network sharing agreement allowing rival UAE telecoms operators to compete in home services will not include television, Reuters has reported. Du CEO Osman Sultan added that the agreement between the pair to allow open competition is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. Sultan has warned that the deal would include only broadband and voice. IPTV - television via the same fibre optic cables that provide fixed broadband - would not be part of the initial agreement because the two operators' networks are not yet compatible.
