UAE’s Etisalat Group appoints Al Abdooli as CEO

He replaces Hatem Dowidar, who had been interim CEO since Ahmad Julfar’s resignation

The biggest telecommunications operator in the UAE, Etisalat Group, has named a new chief executive as the company continues to restructure itself.

The Abu Dhabi-listed company said in a statement to the bourse on Monday (March 28) that its board had appointed Engineer Saleh Adbullah Al Abdooli as the CEO.

Prior to becoming the group chief executive, Al Abdooli has served as the CEO of Etisalat Misr and Etisalat UAE. He joined the group in 1992.

Al Abdooli replaces Hatem Dowidar, who was appointed interim CEO earlier this month when Ahmad Julfar resigned for personal reasons.

The country’s largest publicly traded company had then said that Dowidar, the chief operating officer, will remain as acting chief executive until the “restructuring of Etisalat Group by the end of June”.

The statement added that Dowidar will now report to Al Abdooli.

“These changes will improve alignments and streamline operations within group,” said the company, which directly and indirectly operates in approximately 18 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
