Virgin Australia orders 23 new MAX planes

Virgin Australia, in which Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways has a 3.96% stake, has finalised a firm order for 23 fuel-efficient 737 MAX airplanes with options for four additional 737 MAX airplanes. With this order, Virgin Australia becomes the first Australian airline to finalise an order for the new 737 MAX, while adding to their existing fleet of 68 Next-Generation 737 airplanes, Boeing said. Last month, Etihad Airways confirmed it has acquired a 3.96% stake in Virgin Australia Holdings through purchases on the open market. Etihad Airways currently operates 21 weekly services to Australia, while Virgin Australia runs three flights a week to Abu Dhabi from Australia.
