Vodafone Qatar announced it has extended the deadline for its literary competition, “With Your Pen Express Your Love for Qatar”. The new deadline is now Saturday, 8 February 2014. Held under the auspices of H.E Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, the Minister of Culture and Heritage, the competition – which is aimed at both professional novelists and young writers – was launched at the 24th Doha International Book Fair and has received wide acclaim and interest from many in Qatar.
Mohammed Al Yami, Director of External Affairs at Vodafone Qatar said: “We’re very excited to see the overwhelming response received for the competitions so far and we can’t wait to announce the winners by March 2014. Our esteemed jury board will take approximately one month to be able to evaluate all entries and make a decision and we’re wishing all participants the best of luck. As a proudly Qatari company, Vodafone designed these competitions to help preserve the Arabic language, encourage creative writing, and most importantly, to celebrate the beauty of the written Arabic word and we’re confident that some of the literary work generated out of these competitions will certainly bring out some of the best talents in the country.”
The competitions are open to all citizens and residents until 8 February 2014. The Vodafone professional novelists’ competition submissions have to be in the Arabic language on any subject that’s no less than 250 pages. The prizes for this competition are as follows; 1st Prize QR50,000, 2nd Prize QR30,000 and 3rd Prize QR20,000. The Vodafone short story competition for youth is open for all youth from the ages of 18 to 30 years. Submissions have to be in the Arabic language expressing love and pride of Qatar between 500 to 1000 words. The prizes for this competition are as follows; 1st Prize QR20,000, 2nd Prize QR15,000 and 3rd Prize QR10,000.
