Reinforcing the project’s status as the country’s leading Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC), The Wave, Muscat recently won three prominent awards that recognized a number of its pioneering commercial, residential and innovative environmental features.
The newly-opened commercial gateway, ‘The Walk’, was named ‘Best Commercial Project’ while ‘Reehan Gardens’, the waterfront community’s greenest precinct, received the ‘Best Residential Project’ accolade at the Dossier Construction Awards & Summit 2014. The Wave, Muscat also triumphed in the ‘Green Innovation’ category at this year’s Oman Green Awards for deploying and installing custom-made artificial reefs named ‘Arabian Pyramids’ after their shape that successfully brought marine life back to previously-barren seabed habitat between the Wilayats of Seeb and Bausher.
“The recognition from two prestigious award panels emphasizes our vision to deliver a sustainable master planned ITC where people can live, work and play in a world-class community while maintaining our focus on conserving and enhancing the surrounding environment,” said Hawazen Esber, CEO of The Wave, Muscat. “The awards also reinforce our commitment to delivering innovative properties to meet the demands of a growing market and provide high quality commercial space in a thriving waterfront community that cares.”
‘The Walk’ offers four levels of retail outlets and contemporary dining venues, totaling 16,000sqm. The first floor is dedicated to food and beverage venues with an emphasis on developing an outdoor ‘café culture’, while the second floor features specialty retail, convenience shopping and services that cater to visitors’ daily needs. The third floor is allocated for health and wellbeing services and the fourth floor is reserved solely for commercial use in support of the country’s growing need for quality office space. While the Reehan Gardens residential development comprises spacious villas designed in three to seven bedroom configurations with a community pool and central park area within a fully landscaped ultra-modern neighborhood environment.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, the ‘Arabian Pyramids’ were designed to withstand the underwater current and potential cyclonic activity of Oman’s waters, as well as promote the development of a sustainable marine farm. Regular dives found that the reefs were completely covered with aquatic life and showed a level of growth usually expected after six months. The different light, shade, texture and water flow patterns created by the reefs has enticed barnacles, crustaceans, plankton and algae to grow, while providing shelter for smaller fish and establishing a breeding zone for larvae. The Arabian pyramids have also created a unique opportunity for leisure tourism at The Wave, Muscat with the addition of new and unexplored diving and snorkeling sites that have already started to prove popular amongst professional and amateur divers.
The Wave, Muscat extends along 6km of coastline and incorporates luxury residential properties, world-class leisure facilities including the 400-berth Almouj Marina and Almouj Golf, Oman’s only signature designed PGA Standard 18-hole links golf. Oman’s leisure and lifestyle destination is also developing a growing array of community amenities and will soon begin work on a 24,000sqm Office Park to further support businesses operating within its Master Plan.
