Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), a leading aluminium producer in the world, is proud to be honoured with the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Award for Bahraini Women Empowerment 2014 for it efforts and commitment to gender equality and equal opportunity at the workplace.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and Supreme Council for Women President, presented the awards to the winners. Alba was awarded with the second place in the private sector, which was accepted by the Company’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Elham Al Eid.
Speaking on the occasion, HRH Princess Sabeeka underscored the importance of the award in promoting the incorporation of women’s needs in the work plans of public and private establishments and encouraging Government’s departments to empower women and train them to assume leading and executive roles as decision-makers.
Commenting on this occasion, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray said: “We express sincere thanks to HRH Princess Sabeeka for recognising Alba as a Company that champions equal opportunities at the work place. At Alba, we recognise that corporate success is a collaborative effort, and we aim to continue to work towards creating opportunities for Bahraini women to succeed and achieve the Company’s goals, thereby contributing to the economic development of Bahrain.”
Alba is well-known as one of Bahrain’s leading employers of women in the industrial sector, and undertakes numerous initiatives to empower them. In 2013, Alba launched the first-ever Women’s Vocational Training (VT) Programme in partnership with Tamkeen and as part of it, 10 Bahraini women were selected to undergo specialised training courses for vocational skills over a 24 month period. The VT Programme provided a platform to further develop and train women for career advancements in the Company.
