Bahrain allocates additional $1bn for wages

Bahrain's King Hamad has issued a decree approving an extra budget spending of BD388.5m ($1.03bn) over two years to cover wage increases for government employees, the state news agency BNA has reported. According to the royal decree, of the total sum, BD96.9m will be spent in 2011 and the rest in 2012. The additional budget will be used to improve the wages and living standards of state employees and retirees, as well as providing more funds to government bodies and bolstering reserves.
