Clyde and Co expands MENA dispute resolution practice with senior partner hire in Abu Dhabi

Clyde & Co is pleased to announce the arrival of Christopher Jobson into the firm’s Abu Dhabi office. Christopher joins from Eversheds where he was the firm’s Middle East Regional Chairman.

Christopher is a highly regarded litigation and arbitration lawyer in the Middle East, having spent the last 10 years working across the region, based out of Abu Dhabi and Doha. Clyde & Co boasts the largest dispute resolution practice in the region, with Christopher’s arrival bringing the region’s dispute resolution group to 13 partners and over 40 associates.

Christopher advises a broad range of clients on local and international commercial litigation and arbitration. His clients include regional and international energy companies, financial institutions, P&I clubs, ship owners and charterers and logistics organisations.

Middle East head of dispute resolution and MENA Board Member, Chris Mills, commented: “Chris has a long history with Clyde & Co, having spent the early part of his career working in our Dubai and Hong Kong offices. His well respected practice and strategic outlook strongly complements Clyde & Co’s regional strategy and direction, a key part of which involves our dispute resolution practice. We very much look forward to working with him as we engage on this next phase of growth.”

Clyde & Co’s Abu Dhabi office was established in 2004, with Chris’ arrival now taking local office partner numbers to six, out of a regional total of 40.

Christopher said of his joining: “I am delighted to re-join Clyde & Co; the firm has an impressive reputation and platform from which to build, and I am very much looking forward to working with the team in Abu Dhabi and across the region.”

Clyde & Co has announced a number of high profile lateral hires internationally over recent months as the firm continues expansion of its global international arbitration practice in key arbitral centres across the globe, including Brian Dunning in New York and Prakash Pillai in Singapore.

Clyde & Co’s global arbitration practice includes more than 60 dedicated partners and is centred around large-scale and multi-jurisdictional commercial arbitrations in the construction, energy, marine, trade and insurance sectors. The firm also routinely acts for and against governments in investment disputes in many of the rapidly expanding and sometimes unpredictable markets of the world. The firm is recognised by industry commentator GAR (Global Arbitration Review) as possessing ‘one of the largest dockets of commercial disputes’; at any given time, the firm has hundreds of arbitrations on its books, with billions of dollars at stake.

Clyde & Co has 5 MENA region offices operating as a single unit: Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE; Doha in Qatar; Riyadh in Saudi Arabia; and Tripoli in Libya. The firm formalised its presence in the Middle East in 1989, after many years of client activity, and today has over 300 staff in the region.

Internationally, with more than 2,500 staff operating across six continents, Clyde & Co is a major international law firm with a distinctive focus on core sectors of infrastructure, international trade, natural resources, transportation and insurance. The firm has a strong reputation for complex and high profile international dispute resolution and for its work in and with fast-moving and volatile emerging markets.
