Dubai government contracts to SMEs rise to Dhs40m

The government departments of the emirate of Dubai have provided procurement contracts worth over Dhs40m to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the emirate during the first half of 2011, Gulf News has reported. "In turn, the SMEs have proved their reliability and dedication to providing the highest services in line with the standards by the government of Dubai," Ebtihal Al Naji, senior manager at the Government Procurement Programme, said. The procurement contracts are part of an initiative decreed by the Dubai government in 2003 that 5% of all government and semi-government departments' procurement budgets be dedicated to helping SMEs registered with the establishment.
