FTSE up, US markets down

The FTSE 100 gained 0.5% yesterday on the first day of a new trading week, with the bourse closing on 6,337.9 points. The Royal Bank of Scotland was the day's main climber advancing 9.2% to 439.8 UK pence. It wasn't such a good day in the US where the Dow Jones shipped 0.4% to finish on 12,987.6 points, while the Nasdaq dropped 1.7% to settle at 2,584.1 points.
