The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has taken over the responsibility for the internet's Time Zone Database, following a request from the Internet Engineering Task Force, the Associated Press has reported. The move follows the abrupt shut-down of a US government server because of a federal lawsuit by astrology software vendor Astrolabe claiming copyright infringement. Astrolabe said the Time Zone Database includes data it publishes in The ACS Atlas. ICANN said it is willing to "deal with any legal matters as they arise".
