Qatar court to extend Islamic finance jurisdiction

The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has unveiled plans to extend its commercial court jurisdiction to Islamic finance through a model framework, Gulf Times has reported. "We are currently looking at the possibility of resolving Islamic finance disputes by setting up a dispute resolution mechanism," said QICDRC chief executive officer, Robert Musgrove. "We started a joint feasibility study with the Qatar International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration (QICCA) last month. With the increasing popularity of Islamic finance globally and specifically in the GCC, it would be ideal to have a mechanism in place to resolve disputes that would arise," he said.
