Qatar Market ducks ahead of US Fed meeting

The Doha-based QE 20 Index fell by 0.06 per cent, closing at 10,468.59 points on Tuesday, December 17. The US Federal Reserve (ie The Fed) will kick off a two-day meeting today, which investors expect to announce when the monetary authority will start tapering its monthly bond purchases of $85 billion (as hinted by the Fed chairman, Ben Bernanke, at the last gathering). Trading was muted, as seven shares recorded no change in value. National Cement gained the most (up by 1.27 per cent at QR111.50), while Commercial Bank of Qatar, the second lender in the gas-rich Gulf state, lost the most (down by 1.27 per cent).
