UAE to spend $21m on ICT education and start-up funding

The ICT Fund, an initiative set up in 2005 by the UAE's Telecomms Regulatory Authority (TRA), has unveiled plans to spend Dhs80m ($21m) in 2011 in education and start-up funding to boost information and communications technology (ICT) in the country, Gulf News has reported. Dhs22m of investment is planned for research and development this year while a further Dhs58m is to be spent on 100 domestic scholarships and another 100 scholarships abroad, Dr Eisa Bastaki, CEO of the ICT Fund, said.
