Based on an algorithm that takes into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period, TripAdvisor has identified 759 landmarks across 68 countries.
The travel planning and booking site has also identified highly rated tours and experiences at these landmarks.
Angkor Wat at Siem Reap, Cambodia has been ranked as the world’s top landmark, followed by Plaza de Espana at Seville, Spain.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates comes at the third ranking (the only Middle east landmark among the top 10), according to PRNewswire.
St. Peter’s Basilica at Vatican City, Italy and Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba at Cordoba, Spain, rounded off the top five.
Taj Mahal at Agra, India, Duomo di Milano at Milan, Italy, Alcatraz Island at San Francisco, California, Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco, California, and Parliament at Budapest, Hungary, occupy the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th ranking respectively.
